Facebook is such a powerful tool I must say, our inspiration to visit Ribs & Rumps at Marina Mirage, Broadbeach came from our family friend’s (Mals) foodie pics posted in her Facebook Wall. How can you resist those slabs of meat served on oversized chopping boards? The TRIBE are big meat eaters and who can resist that adorable Tribal mascot? I can’t……I swear if they sell key chains or stuffed toy of that Tribal mascot, I’ll buy it!
The TRIBE decided to go to Harbour Town last Saturday for some bargain shopping and later on drop by at Ribs & Rumps for an early dinner as they were open from 12pm-10pm during the weekends. We arrive around 5pm at Ribs & Rumps, during this time there were only a handful of customer dining. As we didn’t booked a table, we were advised earlier on that they can provide a table for us but with a 7-7:30 curfew. I agreed, explaining to the staff that we usually eat fast and with no fuss, they will have their table back at said time.
Table’s “carry all” carrier and condiments essentials, I find it quite nice. The “carry all” contains your forks/knives, serviettes and salt/pepper shakers. While the Condiments Essential consists of a wooden bowl with bibs, individual sealed wet wipes, HP sauce and Tomato Ketchup.
As we were seated inside….I find the decor warm with black, red, light gold/brown accents. I love the UFO shaped bamboo lights hanging on their ceilings. Our table was situated in front of the kitchen/counter servery which I find nice as I can see the outgoings of the food and the hustle and bustle of the chefs/cooks. What I find that was weird was that they choose to store some of their kitchen supply (cans & bulk containers of condiments) on the shelves beneath the counter servery in full view of the customers….I find it out of place but then that’s my personal opinion.
The front staff was efficient and friendly, but our food orders took about 15-20 minutes. While we were waiting, the TRIBE had fun testing our newly acquired camera. That waterfront view pic was taken by Mr. H just a few minutes before our meals arrived.
I’ve ordered the Combo Meal to compare which is good and I find the pork ribs the best from the rump steak and beef ribs. The pork ribs were more juicy, tender and the special marinade really steeped through the meat. Cusinera shared this with Mr. Adventurous and in the end we hardly touched the rump steak and most of the chips as we were so full.
Mr. H ordered the Half Rack pork ribs and declare that it’s the best ribs he have tasted so far from all the places we have tried. The tangy BBQ relish was good he said but I tasted a bit of it and it is more on a Tomatoey side kind of relish. He hardly touched his Fries, as by the end of his slaughter on his ribs he was too full.
Miss M’s Kid’s meal was value for money…… 4 pieces of Pork Ribs and a good portion of Fries, “bottomless” kid’s drink and 2 scoops of Ice Cream for only AUD$13.00, good deal if I may say so! She was one happy girl, tucking in to that yummy ribs. Once she finished her main meal I offered her some of my Combo but she said she was already full, which came as a surprise to me as she tends to share my meal when we dine in Hog’s Breath as she finds the Kid’s Meal there too small. She’s in that foodie transition portion stage….Adult meal too big but Kid’s portion too small most of the time.
I ordered a side salad to erase the guilt of the “all meat” dinner, expecting a small side bowl to arrive but what was presented was good plate size salad which I considered a meal on its own. We ate only about a quarter of the salad as the meals we ordered were quite big in portion sizes. The Greek Salad was fresh and I love the bite of the red onion pieces with the cooling effect of the diced cucumbers, the dressing was mild and not too vinegary.
Who can’t say no to scoops of vanilla ice cream with mountainful of whipped cream drizzled with strawberry syrup. Wish it was served with more of that wafer heart as I love nibbling on it. Mr. Adventurous was so looking forward to this dessert as he saw one being carried out while we were waiting for our food orders to arrive.
Here’s the Kid’s Ice Cream included in their Kid’s menu deal………..2 scoops of Ice Cream with your choice of Flavoured topping. Mr. Adventurous and Miss M was in total sugar heaven that night as we only allow them to have sweet treats and soft drinks occasionally.
We finished our meal before 7:00 PM and by this time the place was already buzzing with people.
TRIBE’S FOODIE VIEW: The TRIBE would definitely go back again for those yummy Pork Ribs and good value Kid’s meals.
BUSOG! SARAP! TIPS:
- If you’re planning to dine in, please call first for a table booking, the TRIBE was just lucky that we arrived early as a “walk in” last Saturday.
- To view their menu in your home leisure time: Ribs and Rumps Menu
- Marina Mirage Shopping Complex is the building before the Palazzo Versace. Don’t expect to find the Ribs and Rumps shopfront visually next to the road as the shop is located near the water’s edge. You have to go inside the Shopping Complex to gain access. It took us a couple of back and forth trips along the SeaWorld Drive to guess where the “bloody place” was….sorry about the language but they should have a huge signage as it was stupidly annoying for people who just visit the Gold Coast once in awhile to guess.
- They offer a Frequent Diner Card, you earn 5% of the value of your total bill as a credit each time you dine in. You can either accumulate the credit or use it straight away to your next carnivore dining. Ribs and Rumps also donates 1% of the value of all the bills generated from their Frequent Diner’s Cards to charity. So last Saturday for example, my Frequent Diner Card was already credited AUD$6….so not bad=)
