Cusinera’s first crack on a Sweet Buffet Table….

MR. ADVENTUROUS 5TH BDAY SMURF SWEET BUFFET TABLE© BUSOG! SARAP! 2011MR ADVENTUROUS 5TH BIRTHDAY SWEET BUFFET TABLE

September is the time for my little man (Mr Adventurous) to have his much awaited Birthday Party, this time he turned 5!  My goodness…I still remember when I use to sniff his baby feet and they smell like fresh milk, and now most of the time after playing out under the sun, he smells like fermenting vinegar=)  As usual, Cusinera and Mr. H prepped a typical Filipino Buffet but this time with a sweet twist that is new to our normal foodie feast.

As you know now, it is the “in thing” now to have a Themed Sweet Buffet Table and I want to experience how to set up one….*giggle*, this was decided just one week prior to the party.  I thought it would be that simple but no…..colour matching is not my thing at the moment and I was still printing, paper punching and gluing before I slept the day before the party.

SMURF CAKE SHOOTERS© BUSOG! SARAP! 2011SMURFS CAKE SHOOTERS

A special mention for Mr. H for making the Cake Shooter Stand from some extra wood laying around our garage.  The Smurf theme was just decided only 3 days before the party as Mr Adventurous is gah-gah over Smurfs at the moment, may it be in the morning cartoons or on our Ipad (game).  I was thinking of a Carnival theme but it turned into Smurfs.

SMURF JARS OF SWEETS© BUSOG! SARAP! 2011YEMA & ASSORTED POLVORONS

Most of the Sweets are homemade as I found out that it was a bit hard on finding “blue” lollies/candies here in Brisbane in such a short notice.

INDIVIDUAL BUKO SALAD© BUSOG! SARAP! 2011BUKO SALAD

The TRIBE always serve our Buko Salad in individual containers as we find them cleaner to handle then serving it in a large bowl for people to scoop.

SMURF BLUE JELLY© BUSOG! SARAP! 2011BLUE SMURF JELLY

The Birthday Boy specifically requested Blue Jelly…..and this is what he wanted first thing from his Smurf Sweet Buffet Table, not the cakes (Mango & Ube) or Cake Shooters or lollipops or chips but the cheapest and easy to prep Blue Jelly.  You might be wondering why all this excitement about Blue Jelly…..I have to confess, I never prepped Grocery instant jellies before and  my poor boy think it is exotic…hehehehehe!

So to conclude, Sweet Buffet Table is not that easy to create while you are prepping for your Filipino Style Party Buffet (am just crazy).  There are more props and styling involve…but I will definitely try it again but next time it will be just Sweet Buffet Table alone as I find them so stylish and oh! la! la!….

    That is really cute!

I came across this a bit late because I was trying to find if you have listed yema before. Any chance you could recommend a good recipe? There are many different recipes on the web. I have been craving it for quite a while now. My fiance is moving to Sydney in 2 weeks and I would earn big points with him if I could make these.

  6. @Joanna~ I would recommend Olive's Yema recipe...link: http://www.latestrecipes.net/2009/10/03/dulce-de-leche-candies-yema/
very close to the version I've been selling to my friends and relatives. My Tip, mix your yolk with you condensed milk before putting the pot on the stovetop and while cooking keep stirring to avoid burning from the beginning until the end when you have your desired thickness=) You going to build some serious bicep muscles while cooking this ;)
