NUTELLA VS NUTINO

Nutella or Nutino Hazelnut Spreads, which is better?

NUTELLA© BUSOG! SARAP! 2013NUTELLA HAZELNUT SPREAD

For the past couple of years now Nutella has risen to new heights of food stardom overseas.  Everyone raves how they love it and even just thinking about Nutella makes them salivates. I for one like it but not to the point of collapsing to the ground in orgasmic food comatose every time I ate it smeared on my morning toast….lol!  If you want to read how Nutella came to be, please read this post by Tori Avey: The History of Nutella.

In the Philippines, Nutella is hot at the moment….. it is the “it” item to bring as “pasalubong” (gifts you give to your family & friends) along with Cadbury, Lindt, Fererro Rocher and Tim Tams.  Nutella has the same shine as the now hot trending Speculoos Cookie Butter which by the way I haven’t tasted as it is nowhere to be seen here in Australia.

Here in Australia, Hazelnut Spreads are just normal as your Peanut Butter and Vegemite, always there in your Bread & Spreads Aisle in your regular Supermarkets.  In our TRIBE household, Hazelnut Spread are only bought once in awhile as the family gets tired of the same thing easily.  I categorize this spreads in that “eat in moderation” level.

Now let us talk about Nutino….. the quiet achiever sitting next to Nutella in the Supermarket Bread & Spreads Aisle.  I’ve tasted this brand by chance only due to a sale in Woolworths months ago for only AUD$2 for a 400g jar and I must say am not disappointed!

So now, I will show you the comparison between the two, to prove that brand names have their counterparts and cheaper is not always feral…..

I’ve purchased 750g jars, as you can see Nutella’s jar is more slender and taller while Nutino’s jar is short and stout.  Btw, the boy bread is for Nutella and the girl bread was for Nutino.

NUTELLA REVIEW© BUSOG! SARAP! 2013

Nutella Jar’s mouth has a thin foil seal, so annoying to open as it rips into pieces.  Texture and consistency of Nutella Hazelnut Spread is smooth and very easy to spread.

TASTE:  Tad too sweet for my liking and more chocolaty.

Nutino Jar’s mouth has a greaseproof liner seal, when you peel it away, it goes in one piece.  Texture and consistency of Nutino Hazelnut Spread is smooth and easy to spread.

TASTE:  Sweet, has more hazelnut taste and slightly thicker.

CUSINERA’S VERDICT:

In my personal opinion, Nutella and Nutino are almost the same but I’m leaning more to Nutino as it has more Hazelnut taste, I can tolerate the sweetness and price wise much cheaper compare to Nutella even without the sale discount.  I also like the shape of the Nutino jar as it is easy for someone to scrap the leftover spread with their finger compare to the slender shapely Nutella jar.

As with the rest of the TRIBE… they are not bothered if we have either one in the pantry, as both of them are good Hazelnut Spreads.

So, what do you think?  Would you try Nutino?  Would you stick to Nutella?

F.Y.I~ I’m not related or connected to these businesses. This is my own personal review about products we use in the TRIBE’s household. We paid with our own TRIBE money for our foodie purchases.

  1. Nutino is a must try! But I'm not sure if I can find it here in the Phils. I've tried Nusica before which, if I'm not mistaken, is made in France. It taste almost the same as Nutella too.

  3. I've never seen nor heard of Nutino. I don't think I saw it in the US and definitely not here in the Philippines. Now I'd like to have a taste of that Nutino.

  4. I bought Nutino for the first time this week and found that the oil had separated. I found it annoying, but thought this was normal as I also buy the natural peanut butter by Sanitarium (where the oil always separates). Has anyone else found this, or was it just that jar?

(Although I definitely agree that it was nice to just take off the seal in one hit!)

    1. Sometimes I find the top of Nutino with oil but I usually mix it all up with my knife before spreading but other times the when I open a Nutino Jar it doesn't have the oil...it's weird but still taste the same =)

  5. I can't believe that nutino is made in Italy. I've never seen it there and nutella in italy is ready cheap so we don't need to buy fakes. I tried nutino in nz and I don't like it at all. Nutella is too expensive so I just buy a homebrand that is good enough. It's funny to see that the homebrand actually is made in Germany

  6. I like Nutella but I love Nutino!! I like the smooth texture and the definitive hazelnut taste, I also like that I can wash the Nutino jars and use them as drinking glasses.
