Last Sunday the TRIBE visited another Filipino Food Establishment that recently opened in Browns Plains called Bodega Grill. I’ve booked a table just in case and requested a highchair for our energetic youngest, Samboy earlier that day. What happened the previous day, happened again this day….the TRIBE were late again due to the fact we’ve circled the area a couple of times before finding the place. Thankfully it was not that busy when we arrived at Bodega Grill.
Bodega Grill has a very simple decor and casual dining/takeaway atmosphere. When we arrived we were happily greeted by the lady owner and quickly shown to our reserved table with our requested highchair….A+ on my scoreboard!
Their friendliness, fast service and attention to detail makes up for the simple decor Bodega Grill has. Before I forget…every 1st Sunday of the month they have Lechon (Spit Roasted Pig) on their menu as you can see in the picture above inside the Bain Marie are stacks of containers with cut up Lechon ready for takeaway.
The TRIBE was seated and presented with the menu. Samboy was strapped onto his highchair and all was well. We were asked if we want to order drinks but we decline as our youngest tend to go crazy with drinks, he will drink until he’s ready to pop. Instantly one of the female staff has arrived with a big bottle of cold water with a couple of glasses. Orders was taken and any queries we asked was answered. Mr H asked if they have Sisig and our question was answered by the lady owner that Bodega Grill do serve Sisig but that night their batch was in preparation stages and if we want to go back this coming Thursday for the Sisig we were more than welcome to.
Here are our ordered dishes from Bodega Grill’s Menu:
The portion of Bodega Grill’s Fresh Lumpia is just enough to wet your appetite for your next course…and can’t complain on the cost, only AUD$3.50 for 2 (old menu price). The sauce that comes along with this dish has enough flavour to blend harmoniously when you pour this over your Fresh Lumpia and eat them together….but I prefer my sauce for this dish just a little bit more thickened and the crushed peanuts separately served. Thumbs up for the Fresh Lumpia wrappers as they are made in the premises! The wrappers were soft and have just the right thickness which I’m so impressed, as I don’t like Fresh Lumpia that are encased on those store bought thawed spring roll wrappers.
I love the presentation of their grilled dishes. Bodega Grill’s Pork Bbq was moist and delectable.
Their Flamed Grilled Pork Spare Ribs was delicious…..moist and tender with just the right portion of their secret Bbq sauce basted on the meat.
Bodega Grill’s Nilagang Baka (1 serving/bowl), has soft beef pieces with natural tasting beef broth and enough seasonal vegetables to share around our table.
The adults of the TRIBE had a debate about this dish, Mr H & Ms P stated that it was under seasoned (not salty enough) but to me it was just fine as I like to season my Nilagang Baka according to my taste but I do wish they had Patis (Fish Sauce) dispenser on the table. Samboy (youngest of the TRIBE) went crazy with the Nilagang Baka broth and kept on drinking from his soup bowl. During the duration of our dinner he was asking for more “Khofee” as he thought the soup bowls was coffee cups.
Here’s another dish we the adults of the TRIBE didn’t agree on, Mr H & Ms P thinks this dish was a bit salty but to me it was good. Bodega Grill’s Beef Caldereta contains soft beef pieces with just cooked through potatoes and carrots. You can see that this dish was slowly simmered for long hours and was not rushed, with its rich tomato based sauce combined with steamed rice….yum, enough said!
After we have finished our dinner, we had some leftover Beef Caldereta….before I was about to ask them if we can take it home, one of the female staff has beaten me to it and offered to pack the dish in a takeaway container if we wish to take it home. Now, that is what I call attention to detail!
Hallelujah!!!! Bodega Grill’s (Dine In) Individual Serving of Steamed Rice was only $2….
I love Asian casual dining….usually most of the dining stuff you need are already placed on top of the tables. In Bodega Grill you will find stacks of serviettes and a bucketful of cutleries ready for you to use. The only thing I would suggest in this setup was to change the Soy/Vinegar dispensers as the cork stoppers was fiddly to grab….it flew on my face, lol! Those glass sauce dispensers (Kikkoman type dispenser) with red screw on top with two holes would be better, it eliminates people fingers contaminating where the sauce comes out.
Btw, Bodega Grill has a sister shop which is Santa Rosa Asian Groceries, same complex. So if you happen to visit Bodega Grill during lunch time, you can go and do your Filipino grocery shopping in Santa Rosa afterwards…how good is that!
BODEGA GRILL MENU: Pls. note that the menu was sourced from Bodega Grill FB Page.
TRIBE’S FOODIE VIEW: The TRIBE was pleased and satisfied with the service and food that Bodega Grill has served us. Staff was faultless….owners were friendly and their presence was visible inside the shop. I can tell Mrs J. Castillo is passionate with the food they have on offer in Bodega Grill and I think the customers feels that….I did. The way she describes the dishes and how she does her Sisig dish, you can see the twinkle in her eyes. Her relax nature and friendly conversations with the customers gives this place a positive atmosphere. More power to Bodega Grill, we will definitely visit you soon!
