The TRIBE went to Fortitude Valley a couple of Saturdays ago, to visit Best Friends Supermarket (Filipino Groceries) for much needed Filipino ingredients. We only go to Fortitude Valley when I really need to replenish my pantry cupboard, as the parking on weekdays or weekend can be so expensive. That’s the main reason why I love Sunnybank and Inala, you can forget the time while browsing, as you don’t have to worry about how much they’ll $ slap you in parking when you go home because it’s free.
We only spent about 20 minutes inside Best Friends and had plenty of time for a quick snack. During weekends the Valley have two street markets, one is in the Valley Mall strip and the other one is in the Chinatown Mall, Duncan Street. We headed to the Chinatown Markets and cut through the Valley Markets to reach Duncan Street. The Valley Markets where a bit busy when we went that Saturday, but when we reached the Chinatown Markets, it was a bit on the quiet side and it was near lunch time, where are the people?
ASIAN CHARMS AND ASSORTED ACCESORIES ON SALE
THAI WI-RAT (Thai-Laos Food) STALL
Out of the three food stalls that day, Thai Wi-Rat come up top…they offer reasonable priced food and the counter ladies are very friendly. I would definitely drag the TRIBE to try out their shop.
Yummy BBQ Pork almost like Filipino BBQ Pork but with a hint of lemon grass!
Very nice Curry Puff, freshly cooked…
GOLDEN PALACE CHINESE RESTAURANT STALL
China Town Markets Street Performers
They provided tables and chairs in the middle of the market street, which I really like! We sat there enjoying our snack, while we watch the Street Performers trying to gather enough people so that they can perform their acts. The Jumping Castle was enjoyed by a few handfuls of children. It was too quiet in my opinion…. oh well! We will check out the scenario next time I need to replenish my Filipino ingredients but to go there just for the markets, I have to think twice…
These Asian Markets are one of those places that deeply reminds me of home. Whenever I feel home sick I just drop by the nearest Asian markets, listen to the shouting hawker and I feel at peace.
